Boutique Hotels in Melbourne

It’s difficult to not talk about Melbourne as the greatest city on earth, but let’s try and be objective about it. The city is home to a couple million people who seem to have impeccable style, which is reflected in the hotel scene. Yes, you’re not getting the biggest rooms in the world but it’s all worth it when you venture outside your room.

EXTRAORDINARY PICK

First off, a little bit of honest. This is maybe a bit more than boutique… it’s a big hotel from a hotel chain. BUT, bear with us. This is the finest hotel in Melbs, hands down. Why did it make the list? Well, there aren’t actually that many “boutique” hotels in Melbourne but this one is pretty boogey and we like it. The pool is nice, the rooms are pretty large and the vibe is what you’d expect. Sublime. Obviously the location is super central too, which can’t be said for everything on this page.

QUIRKY PICK

This one really defines quirky, in so many ways. It’s an airstream. Perched on top of a building, this airstream (yup) is one of the most unique stays you’ll get. This hotel is made up of six old airstreams, converted in to modern, luxury accommodation. They’ve all been up cycled with fresh interiors and one of them even has access to a Spa. Okay, it’s a hot tub – but still, very much mention worthy. One last note, they’re well located – not in the back end of nowhere.

THE FUN PICK

The Ovolo South Yarra isn’t as centrally located as the others here, but it more than makes up for it in straight up vibes. Just look at this reception, isn’t it beautiful? Doesn’t it stop you from thinking about your day and transport your mind elsewhere? Exactly. The rooms aren’t particularly big but you don’t notice it as much because your eyes are endlessly entertained. Very much worth a visit.

JIM and Hels’ view

Melbourne actually has such a great selection of hotels, that even if these don’t quite tickle your pickle – you’ll be sure to find something. The last time we visited, we stayed at the Movenpick – the rooms were fine but the indoor/outdoor pool on the second floor was absolutely sublime. Wherever you stay, consider yourself lucky to be visiting one of the finest cities around.
